Our practice go at Debates

We have been starting to learn a bit about debates.  It's sometimes difficult when you have to practice arguing something that you don't believe in yourself, like I had to argue that animal testing for medical research shouldn't be abolished.  I was buddied up with Rebecca and she argued it should be abolished.

Here's our first ideas.

Animal testing in medicine should be banned!

For -

I am for animal testing in medicine to be banned. This practice should not continue.

Animals should not be sacrificed for humans. People should find other ways to make medicine so animals can live longer and not have to suffer! 

Animals have feelings too!         

Against-

Animals should be used for medical research.

This research is saving human lives! The choice is either the animals die or the humans die, and humans are a higher functioning species than animals. There are many important medical breakthroughs that have happened, because animals can be used to test things before they are tested on humans.

EXPLAIN WRITING MAMMOTHS

Mammoths 

I will be telling you about what mammoths ate and also how mammoths became extinct.

Mammoths were around 13 feet (4 meters) tall and weighed around 6 tons.

Firstly, I will be telling you a bit about what the mammoths ate. They were herbivores and ate plants and grazed on grass.

Next I will explain two reasons how the mammoth population shortened. So...The habitat of mammoths is in the ice known as the mammoths steppe. This environment was stretched across northern asia, many parts of Europe, and the northern part of North America during the last ice age. But because of global warming the ice started melting there for the mammoths home was basically fading away and mammoths only can live on the ice so they just started dying out.

Lastly cavemen hunted mammoths to get their fur to make coats and other clothes to keep themselves warm. They also hunted them for their meat and afterwards they would use the bones from the skeleton of the mammoth for tools.

In conclusion, mammoths would have been around alot longer, if it wasn't for global warming.

I hope you now know how mammoths became extinct!

Explanation Writing Rabbit breeding

Rabbits

Rabbits are talented creatures. They have amazing physical skills and some can jump over fences,up to 25 feet!

There are about 305 different breeds of Rabbits.

I will be specifically telling you about how breeders make rabbits different.

Firstly people can create a different type of rabbit by cross-breeding 2 types. For example the Holland Lop started as a cross between Netherland Dwarf, French Lop and English Lop.

Secondly rabbit cross Breeding means mating of rabbits of two separate breeds. Breeding in animals is not as easy as it sounds. Crossbreeding in pet rabbits is preferred only after the doe (female rabbit) is at least 6 months old. The age for the buck (male rabbit) should be at least 4 months before mating.

Lastly the problem with crossbreeding lies in the genetics of each breed. By crossbreeding there is a great risk that a genetic default could be brought into the breed. Although the first breeding may produce an animal that conforms, it may actually carry a recessive gene that later appears in subsequent generations. The result if careful and vigorous culling does not occur is a breed that is harmed rather than helped by crossbreeding.

In conclusion, it's not bad to crossbreed rabbits infact it will expand the population of rabbits.

Mythical Creatures!

Over lockdown once I finished my work for the day, I made a slide show about Mythical Creatures!

On Tuesday me and my brother Hayden made moon sand! 

To make it we put 2 cups of flour and quarter cup of oil, and mixed well.

Miss Muffin-The movie day!

One day a lady called Miss muffin was late for school Again.
She was a teacher at Peach Primary.
She jumped in her car hoping that she wasn't going to be late for movie day.
Every year Peach Primary would have a movie day and that was today.
Miss muffin loved movie days.
In fact she was bringing the popcorn.
She had finally made it to the school.
Miss muffin wooshed out of her car and ran into the classroom.
“I’m here” she said half out of breath! She looked at the clock, 9:09.

She wasn't late. “WOAH I made it!” said Miss muffin.
She looked at the children.
They looked VERY surprised to see Miss muffin on time.

She walked over to the remote and turned on the TV and put on Toy Story 4.
Miss muffin gave the popcorn to a boy called Liam.
He took it to the microwave in the teacher break room.
The movie ended with tears and laughter from the kids!
Miss muffin and the kids had a great day!

My Dragon Art!

When lock down was over, In room 8 we made dragon art and this is my one!

First we drew a dragon on a piece of paper

Then we cut the dragon out and lightly shaded the dragon with a pencil

Next we got a A3 peace of paper and folded it into 3rds 

Then we got some dye and painted a line of purple then blue then green for the water once the paper dried we dyed the top part red then orange then yellow for the sky

Then we got a vivid and drew some land, then we drew a castle we could ether put a tree or a flag, I chose to put a tree 

Lastly we stuck a piece of black card behide our dyed paper then we stuck our dragons on!

My colour poem without the sounds

Blue is when you feel sad
It smells like salty water from the seas
I hear the waves crashing on the beach

Yellow feels happy and warm
It smell tangy
like some fresh tropical fruit
Yellow is a bumble bee
buzzing
happily around the garden

Red is anger
It smells like something on fire!
Red is clanging and banging
like a band playing in your backyard

Pink is friendly
like a best friend

Mr Inivisable 2

Months later… After Fred turned invisible, he had gotten used to being invisible. One day he was thinking up a plan to scare everyone, at the halloween festival tonight. 

He dressed in white clothes and cut two holes in a old white sheet. He glued it to a hat and Fred put the sheet on his head and walked towards the place where the festival was. He could hear shouting and laughter. But it was soon going to be ruined! He sneaked onto the stage when everyone was getting drinks. He went barefoot so it looked like he was floating. “HELLO!” Fred shouted in a creepy voice. Everyone turned their heads. “ARRRR!!” shouted a little girl. “A ghost!!!” screamed another lady.

“RUN!” shouted a man and soon the park was empty. Fred started Laughing. “Maybe being invisible isn't so bad after all” and he walked back home.  

Animal Town

It was slowly getting dark. Mia and her friend Ava were driving to Animal Town. Their yellow camper had finally reached a sign, it said. ANIMAL TOWN. "Were here!!" they both shouted. They parked ther van and went to the hotel. But instead of a person at the desk. There was a polar bear. "ARRR" screamed Ava. "Woah jezz, i'm just the hotel manager" the polar bear said. "Mia why didn't you tell me about the animals"said Ava a little angry "I thought you would know, it is ANIMAL Town"Mia exclaimed. "Well whatever let's sleep in the camper" said Ava and when they walked outside they realised that they left the camper unlocked. There were animals all over the camper their was a lion on the roof and a bear inside. Ava tumbled over, "A... A.. A.. A BEAR!" shouted Ava and she fainted. Mia carried her to the camper. "Do you think we could have our camper back asked Mia. "Sure" the animals said.

The next day they went out to explore. They saw statues and paintings of animals all over the walls of buildings and they even went to Cubs Cupcakes "Maybe Animal town isn't actually that bad" said Ava 
and they both laughed!! The End

The Invisable Man

It was nearly midnight. Fred was getting ready to go to bed. He had been watching TV for hours. Fred went to brush his teeth like he always would. But somthing was wrong, he couldn't see himself in the mirror. What was happening! He thought it was from watching the TV for too long. So he went and got a glass of water, he gulped it down like it was the end of the world! He ran back to the mirror nothing had changed. He was INVISIBLE! He called the doctor. After a few minutes, he heard a knock on the door. "Hello" the doctor said. Fred opened the door. "Hello" Opps the doctor couldn't see him. She hopped back in her car and left. "NOOO!" shouted Fred. He went to bed and cried.

My story - life during a pandemic

During the coronavirus pandemic, things have been very different. I can no longer go to the supermarket with my Mum or to the movies and swimming pool for my lessons. 

Now I have to do my ballet lessons on a video call with my teacher and other girls in my grade.

I miss my friends a lot, but we can still do video calls on our chromebooks.

Mum insists on listening to the 1 o’ clock update on the radio! 

My Dad is still working because he is an essential worker!

I live on a dairy farm so me and my brothers can go bike riding around the farm. We have been making lots of bike tracks in the past weeks and we have been going down to the river at the back of our farm. A few weeks ago we had a BBQ on the beach. We cooked sausages over the fire. It was so much fun! School work at home is very different from normal school. We have a different teacher (Mum) and I work at the same table with my brothers. It's kind of odd because one of them is a year 8 and the other is a year 12 and I'm only a year 6!

I can't wait to go back to school and Greymouth!!!

My Pobble Story 4

Katie was panicking! What was she going to tell her Mum, Cassie. Shes never lied to her Mum before so she told her the truth. "Umm when I was in the bath, the room trasformed into the ocean and there was a palace, and I meet a lady, she said she was a little old and she was a queen, but she didn't  want to be queen anymore so she made me queen, but now I dont know if I can do all that queeny stuff I would rather be a princesess!" "OK" said her Mum very confused. "I'll show you tomorrow night" Katie begged "Ok fine, now go to bed, it's way past your bedtime". 

Finally it was nightime the next day. Katie got on her togs and so did her Mum. They played in the bubbles for a long time. Katie was starting to get worried why was it not working. Wait! She forgot her tiara. She quickly got her tiara. Then the room was filling up with water. "It's working!" shouted Katie "What's happening!!" screamed Katie's Mum, and in seconds they were floating on the ocean. "Mum your dress is so pretty" and it was, it was gold with silver sparkles.  The bath tub was  turning into a submarine and they went to the palace door. When Katie opened the door of the submarine Katie and her Mum lite up and turned into mermaids. Katie's Mum had a yellow tail. "Woah" Katie's Mum looked very astonished. Katie knocked on the door, Adaline opened the door. "Hello Queen Katie" "Hi" Katie said "Adaline theres somthing I need to tell you" "Ok what is it" I don't think I can be a good Queen, so mabe my Mum could maybe be the new queen, and I could be the princess" "Thats a wonderful idea" "Mum how would you like to be the queen" "Really of corse but only if Katies the princess ok" Cassie and Adaline went of to do some queen training after a few hours. Cassie and Adaline came out a room "Alright see you tomorrow" "OK bye" and Katie and her Mum swam back into the submarinew. They zoomed back to the surface. They were back in the bath, that was so much fun and they both laughed. 
Now Katie and her mum have baths everynight!!   The End

My Pobble Story 3

Katie went through the front door of the palace. It was stunning! There were so many paintings on the walls. Then a lady came out of a room. She looked very happy. "Hello" The lady said. "Hi" Katie replied. "Ummm" the lady hesitated. "My name is Adaline, as you can see i'm a little old, and I would love  to retire, but I didn't have any childern and no one wants to be the Queen. So I was thinking maybe you, would like to be the new queen?" Asked Adaline. "Are you joking, YES!" Katie shouted with joy. "Alright come this way" said the Queen they walked into a room, with a tiara on a red cushion. "What's your name dear asked Adaline. "Katie" Katie replied Adaline pointed to a mat on the floor so Katie walked and stood in the middle of it. "Katie I now pronounce you queen of Alanti!" She placed the tiara on Katie's head. Katie had never been so happy in her life! "Come back tomorrow, and we can  get to know each other, and i'll teach you all the personalities of a kind, loving queen" "Ok bye"and Katie swam out the door, and hoped back in her submarine and the submarine zoomed back to the surface then everything around  her lite up and the she was back in her togs, in the bath. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.  "Hurry up honey its time for bed!" said Katie's Mum. "Ok Mum" She got dried and went to the kitchen for a glass of milk "Honey what's that on your head?"Asked her Mum. "Umm" Katie put her hand, on her head OH BOY, her tiara was still on her head. Playdough Recipe!

This is the playdough recipe I used!

1. 2 cups plain flour (all purpose)
2. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (baby oil and coconut oil work too)
3. 1/2 cup salt.
4. 2 tablespoons cream of tartar.
5. 1 to 1.5 cups boiling water (adding in increments until it feels just right)
6. gel food colouring (optional)

Earth Day Writing- Honey Bees

1. How much honey do honey bees collect each day?  A healthy hive can produce, 2 to 5 pounds of honey per day.

2. How do they know where to go to get home to their hive? Some bees will easily find their hive, by smelling around for it.

3. Do honey bees drink water? Honey bees drink water like other animals, but they also use it for other purposes.Like in winter especially, honey bees use water to dissolve crystallized honey and thin honey that has become too thick and viscous.

Earth Day Writing!

The astronauts are on their way to the moon, they look out the spaceship window. The earth looked amazing, the blue oceans and the brown land looked stunning. Then without warning, a sound came from the crontrols. BEEP BEEP!! the astronauts got a fright and floated to the controls. "The oxygen tank has a crack in it!!" shouted one of the astronauts. OH NO! They had to fix it fast, or they were going, to run out of oxygen. All they had was some duck tape, and some chewing gum. They put there suits on just in case and stuffed some chewing gum in the crack and put duck tape over top. Will they survive?.... DA DA DAAA! 

My Pobble Story 2

Katie was having so much fun under the sea. She saw a turtle swim by as she headed towards the castle gate. The gate sensed she was there, and it creaked open. She went into the kingdom, and there was an old fountain in the center. When she arrived at the castle door, she hopped out the boat. Suddenly her body lite up and she turned into a mermaid! Her tail was blue with sparkles. She gasped with joy, and swam over to the huge wooden door, at the front of the castle. Katie knocked on the door, a fish with a tux opened the door. Katie guessed that he was the butler. He was standing in the doorway. The butler stared at Katie. "Hello" he said in a grumble. "Hi can I come in" Katie said shyly. "Yes!" the butler said. "Thanks" Katie replied, and she swam into the castle. The castle was gorgeous, it had pantings of mermaids, all over the walls. The butler swam into a room, and started talking with someone. Then a lady with a green tail, and blonde hair came out of the room. She had a big smile on her face. "Hello" the lady said excitedly. "ummm..."the lady hesitated.

My Pobble Story!

It was nearly bedtime for Katie. She grabed a towel from the cupboard and headed to the bath room, Katie loved baths! She locked the door, and hopped in the warm, bubbly bath. After a few minutes, of pouring bubbles over her head. The room started filling up with water.
 The bath lifted up from the ground and floating on the water. Suddenly the room transformed into the ocean. All she could see was water and different kinds of sea creatures. Then she realized her togs turned into a beautiful saphire dress, with tiny white crystals on the shoulders. Then without warning a see- through dome shielded the top of the boat. It dived under the water.
Ahead she could see a glisening stone castle and the boat zoomed down to the gate of the castle.

My Pobble Story!

One sunny day a little girl called Sally went for a walk in the woods. Along the way she came across a rocky path, it looked very mysterious, so she walked down the path, to see were it lead to. 
Once she turned the corner she spotted a little house in the hillside and she walked up to the mini blue, circle door and knocked on the door. KNOCK KNOCK! No one was home. So Sally walked up to another house and she could hear talking from the inside. So she knocked on the door. Suddenly the talking stopped. "Hello?" Sally said. The door opened and a hobbit came out the house. "Who are you?" he bellowed. "I'm Sally" she said a little frightened. "Your not one of us, so get Out Of Here !" he shouted. "Wait, can I explore, then i'll leave, please" Sally said. "Fine Whatever!" and  he shut the door. As she turned to leave the house, she bumped into a big tall, grey Wizard with a long white scratchy beard. She screamed with fear! She ran back up the path. Sally was never going back!!

My Pobble Story

It was 8:32 and Mary was fast asleep. Then all of a sudden Sid her pet monkey shouted in her ear. Mary sat up and looked at her watch, she was going to be late for school!
She yanked on her uniform and rushed to the window and hoped on her zipewire, she speed throw the trees and landed in the glistening white sand on the beach. She clampered into her boat and sailed to a large island called Mogadeshew. She ran along the cobbled windy streets and Mary finally came across Mogadeshew school. Mary sprinted to her class room. She looked at the clock in the class room, 9:01..... she made it!!

My stay home holiday!!

During my holiday I did lots of fun things with my family. The best one was when me and my family went fishing down at the river, at the back of our farm. 

We didnt catch any thing:( But we still had fun. We cooked sausages and bacon on our sticks, over the fire. It was so yummy! Then Mum cooked some chocolate filled bananas and cooked apple. Next we played around with the sparklers, we threw them around, and they looked like little rockets, it looked so cool. Dad wanted to try using the sparklers to write STAY HOME. Mum's  been doing a camera course, so she knows alot about cameras. She used her knowledge to take the picture. When we finished the boys watered down the fire and we started packing up. It was really dark and the sky was full of stars that looked like little twickley lights, as we headed back home.
