DAY 2: Forest Life Activity 1: Giants Among Us

New Zealand's largest known living kauri tree Tane Mahuta it is in the Waipoua forest when i went to the northland i saw this amazing tree. It was so tall it couldn't fit in the photo.

Maths Bakeing day!

This week for maths we had a bake off my grop name was the BURNERS!  and I worked with Zac & Mikayla. We did bakeing for maths because we were learing abuot meserment We made vanilla cupcakes with butter cream icing
they were very nice

If you want to make our  cupcakes here is the recipe:

Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 190°C conventional or 170°C fan-forced. Beat butter with an electric mixer until smooth, add Chelsea Caster Sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Add the sifted flour, milk and vanilla, beat until smooth. Place paper baking cases in a cupcake tin, spoon in mixture until they are about 2/3 full (don't overfill or they will form peaks). This recipe makes 24 cupcakes so you might need to do this in two batches. Bake for 20 minutes until golden or until they spring back when lightly pressed. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool while you prepare the icing.

Buttercream Icing: Beat the butter until it is pale and fluffy. Sift in the Chelsea Vanilla Flavoured Icing Sugar and mix, adding milk until you have a light, fluffy mixture. Add extra milk if you need a softer consistency. Spread or pipe icing over cupcakes and top with decorations as desired.

Pet half day & movie

On Thursday we  had  a pet half day  where some pets come to school there were 1 cat  3  rabbits 1 chicken and  2 dogs there was a scavenger hunt two find things on the pets like green eyes the biggest  and we  read to our pets 

I broght my  pet rabbit called  caramel  he was very shy sowondent let me put is coat on but he still won a medle for cutist well all the bunnys got a  medle for cutiest   

at the end of the day we wacthed a movie war hose  becuse we are reading the book! 

online safety

This week we have been learning about how to stay safe online
when you are chatting  online never use your real name for your username  and don't  tell them your address or were you do hobbies because they could track you down just dont use any personal info and if you get sent a doggy message take a screenshot and post it to a trusted adult

TIPS for staying safe online:
never share passwords
never share personal info
never chat with inappropriate people
never make a secret chat to talk about someone (it's not nice)

The Netball Tournament!

On the 27th of August (Tuesday) Room 8  went to the Netball Tournament! 
We were supposed to go on monday. 
But it was raining bad luck right, but anyway we played in anzac park we vs Korao, St Pats B, Paroa and Awahonow sadly we lost all the  games but we still had so much fun I was WD for most of it but I was mostly a sub The day was great!

    

St Johns first aid workshop!

St john's workshop!

Today the fantastic room 8 got  to go  to a first aid workshop Katherine, From St John came to talk to us about first aid, and all the things you need to know, when there is an emergency. 
First we walked in to the library and sat in a rainbow shape then we got a card with the steps in an emergency then Kathrine demonstrated the steps and we got into pairs and tried to follow.

Next we had to  try to put on bandages on people it was fun and something I have never done before 
and I won't  forget  when we got into groups of 3 and we had  to remember what was in the first aid kit my group got 12 when there was 17 lastly the bell rang and we all went outside.

  

Escape room!

The escape room challenge!

On Thursday while the 7  & 8s went on a ski trip.
The year 5s and 6s had a escape room challenge!
First we  had  to find 10 clues, that were hidden inside the library, once we found all the  clues.  Then we had to solve them  they were quite tricky to solve, but together we solved them easily but some  of  the clues were hard so we used the desktop.
Everyone was so happy, when we found all the numbers because we were freeeee! 
but that's not the reason,  the prize for when we finish was SUBWAY!  It was great we never get subway at school.

super snow day

In the weekend it snowed and I made a snowman and made snow angels!  Me my brother and my Dad we all had a snowball fight.

I hit Dad heaps of times so he went inside. I made big balls of snow then me Mum and  Hayden went  on wintery walk down  to the farm on the way I shaped a skeleton head with the snow OOF! Hayden threw a snowball  at my  head and it hurt so mum started throwing snowballs at hayden until it started a snowball fight after all that I sat in my sleeping bag by the fire to  warm up the  snow was  so fun!

One sloppy day a dirt biker named Max was bobbing  down a swamp on one tyer,
SUDDENLY a huge swamp monster appeared

It had trees  on its back and moss on its tummy its name was

Swampasuris rex. It was going to stomp on max
but all  of a sudden 4 elfs came swinging on vines and
started attacking the monster with small swords and axes.
then the Elf leader gave max a big hammer so max swung on a vine
and  hit the monster and it head fell off and max went to his home. the end  

My winter holiday!

The weird- the weird thing that happened in the holidays was that when I was at home some people drove up to our house and knocked on the door and  rang the doorbell i was  hiding with hayden and steven suddenly they tried to open the door  but then they gave up and left. Whew!



The wonderful- the wonderful thing that happened was that I had a party at the pool the gallants and the van der geastscame cause they were the only ones who wasn't on holiday we  had fish and chips and had cake was filled with M&Ms and jafers and played on the  big inflatable.



The worst- the worst thing that happened was I hit my toe on the  super bowl in  hanmer springs
it really hurt. 

Tessellations

In room 8 we have been learning about tessellations

When you are making a tessellation the 4 requirements are you must not  overlap the shapes and no gapes and  you have to repeat the pattern and you use shapes.

The person who connected maths with art was M.C.Escher   he saw the art when he was in india.
 

School Camp 2019 Shantytown

School Camp

On Wednesday 15th  May we went to shantytown for school camp.
My favourite activities were making flax ropes, building huts in the rain and making a  raft.
When I was making the  raft i was working with Bianca, Zac, Quinn, Victor, and our leader was Braber. My job was plating the flax  to make ropes. We put a doll on it and miz B dressed it  up to look like a maori chef, and guess what it actually floated.

The things we did on day 1 we  did our mihis to everyone
and Miss Barbour and Mrs Mears
we also went on the train to gold panning.
later in the day we did some carving with soap on mine I made  a R for Rebecca.
At night we explored Shantytown and we scared Miss B It was funny.
Then it was bedtime it was torcher people were moving and  talking and snoring
I got to sleep at about 12 and got into bed at about 8:30. Finally morning
We did a bit more thing then went back to  school.

   

Coordinates & Mapwork

This term we have been learning about measurements, coordinates and map work.

We learnt about the directions of the compass.
(North, East, South, West)

The activities that we did were drawing floor plans
and coordinate map activities.
My favourite active was drawing the map of our school
and using it  for a treasure hunt we used  Jess's map for it.
Guess what the treasure was 2 packets of CHOCOLATES!! 

The map  that we are doing is going to help us with our camp
coming up and our rafting trip.

Our first term!

 Our first term!!

In our first term of 2019 we had a big change.

We had  a new teacher her name is miss B she is from South Africa,

and some students got some new chromebooks. 

Also there were some new students, that came to our school,

and we went to the pool for midland line swimming and we won 

THE RELAY!

What I really like about our new teacher is that she buys lego  for us so we have

got a lego club going on. 

Also we had  to special day they were valentine's day and pi-day.

I learnt that paper planes  are heavier if you add more color.

I didn't do well mine went up then sored down into the tree then went under 

a crack in the school but someone got it for me. 

 

Heros

You have  to be brave and unselfish and smart to be a hero. 

I admire Chesley Sullenberger as a hero,
because  he saved people by landing the plane,in the in the Hudson river.
He would have felt scared or worried
I think he is a very brave man.
